My point isn’t so much about the level of racism/bigotry in the US, more that US media and academia treat racism and race relations in the US as the universal experience. It’s part of a larger problem with Amerocentrcism, where US issues are assumed by many Americans to be understood globally, while there is little to no knowledge of outside issues among many in the US.
